Bridal dress Wedding Hangers

July 12, 2019

It is always fun to work on a project that is not paper like these bridal dress wedding hangers. I love the way we used gold ink on the walnut wood hanger. Also, mine are a bit unique because I use a pointed pen on these to really capture the thick and thin strokes of the script.

These hangers were created for Emily Clarke Events in my Talia hand. Aren’t the flourishes so lovely and delicate for this lucky bridal party?

Luxury Gifting

May 20, 2019

Luxury gifting can be so difficult to determine how to personalize it.  I think this set of teas in a lovely wooden box with the family name written on the outside was perfect for the wedding party.  I used gold ink and my dexter hand so it’s clean and crisp and slightly more masculine than the swirly scripts.

Classic calligraphy envelope addressing

May 10, 2018

I just love this classic script – Spence – for traditional weddings. It has lovely thick and thin contrast, interesting capitals and variations to make it current and something your grandmother would love and approve of.

It looks wonderful in the tried and true black ink and white envelopes but also updated with blue ink or even white ink on a color envelope.

This is turning out to be popular this season along with the classic copperplate. Thank you fantastic brides for working with me using my favorite classic calligraphy scripts. Timeless events, lovely forever.

Calligraphy wedding vows

October 25, 2017

Oh boy, I am always honored to be asked to calligraphy wedding vows that will be hung in a new couples home. Usually, I work with past couples to make it a year anniversary gift (because the first anniversary is a “paper” anniversary).

This type of work can be very detailed and usually involves math, drafts and extra paper for the inevitable ink splatter or skipped word. Here are a few photos from the process!  Usually, I suggest allowing plenty of time for this time of custom order.  Since we want this original heirloom piece to be perfect.  Typical turn around time is approximately 4 weeks.

The first way to start is with a ruler and calculator.  I line my x-height as well as the borders I want to keep for framing.  It also helps my eyes out and rule a few centering lines to work from on the draft and so I know how much movement needs to happen in the final piece.

The 2 pieces are actually ruled with the same x-height and with the same spacing.  I just had to skip lines for the less dense text to make sure it filled the page the same.  Lucky for me the rhythm of text worked out nicely for this approach to the density problem.

These were large! 16×20 in size using gold ink and my Mitty caps script. There was a difference in length for each piece so I adjusted the spacing to make them look a bit more balanced and equally “full”.

I finished the final calligraphy wedding vows off by hand tearing the soft cotton paper for fluffy edges. The result was lovely!

Parisian Flourished Calligraphy Place Cards

October 19, 2017

Parisian flourished calligraphy place cards

I had the joy of providing Parisian flourished calligraphy place cards for the gala dinner at The Inner Circle Experience this past week.  For this special luxury vendor industry party, I thought it was fitting to flex my calligraphy muscles a bit.

I worked with the talented Ceci New York to make these as dramatic as the menus she designed for the event. Each flourish is completed by hand.

Since the location was a classic Paris ballroom, I had to use my ornamental penmanship and flourish the cards in a classic way! This style is similar to Spence on my website with extra fancy capitals and swirls wherever they fit 😉

Naturally, gold on cotton is super luxurious & perfect for this event. Look how it shines!  The lighting of the chandeliers reflected just perfectly to look dramatic on the table setting.
