The Left Handed Calligrapher for Goop

May 14, 2018

These gorgeous menus were by The Left Handed Calligrapher for Goop a few weeks ago. I penned them in a gorgeous rose gold to match the foil (stationer unknown) on the fluffy handmade paper. My Mitty caps script was featured.

This was a fun event celebrating the Goop pop up shop in Highland Park Village at a private residence. I’ll share more once the photos are available online!

I love seeing menus all lined up in someone else’s well lit house when I work on-site. The edges on this paper though! So lovely.

If you need someone for your event, give me a call. I can travel under certain circumstances to complete on-site for the finishing touches to complete the event look.

Calligraphy wedding vows

October 25, 2017

Oh boy, I am always honored to be asked to calligraphy wedding vows that will be hung in a new couples home. Usually, I work with past couples to make it a year anniversary gift (because the first anniversary is a “paper” anniversary).

This type of work can be very detailed and usually involves math, drafts and extra paper for the inevitable ink splatter or skipped word. Here are a few photos from the process!  Usually, I suggest allowing plenty of time for this time of custom order.  Since we want this original heirloom piece to be perfect.  Typical turn around time is approximately 4 weeks.

The first way to start is with a ruler and calculator.  I line my x-height as well as the borders I want to keep for framing.  It also helps my eyes out and rule a few centering lines to work from on the draft and so I know how much movement needs to happen in the final piece.

The 2 pieces are actually ruled with the same x-height and with the same spacing.  I just had to skip lines for the less dense text to make sure it filled the page the same.  Lucky for me the rhythm of text worked out nicely for this approach to the density problem.

These were large! 16×20 in size using gold ink and my Mitty caps script. There was a difference in length for each piece so I adjusted the spacing to make them look a bit more balanced and equally “full”.

I finished the final calligraphy wedding vows off by hand tearing the soft cotton paper for fluffy edges. The result was lovely!

Destination California Wedding – Escort Wall

September 3, 2017

It is always a privilege to work on the genius pieces that happen when Southern Fried Paper and Jacin Fitzgerald join forces. This destination California wedding with it’s escort wall in a stunning tile and calligraphy was no exception.

Destination California Wedding – Escort Wall

The guests were greeted by an amazing escort wall. The tile backdrop served as a photo/ selfie-station backdrop after all the seating cards were removed.

The escort cards were actually leather luggage tags I penned with the guest names. We used my Samantha script in white ink and they turned out lovely.  The other side indicated the table number was designed by Southern Fried Paper.

stunning table setting – tile place card calligraphy

One of my favorite features of this event were the place cards. Southern Fried Paper ordered handmade terra cotta tiles from a Texas local and I put the guest names on in white calligraphy using the same style.  These tiles were hefty at about a pound a piece.  A great idea to help weight down menus for a windy California destination wedding.

These looked so good on the stunning tabletop Jacin designed.  I adore the loose florals and little dishes on the table to really give it some depth.  These chargers topped by a wrapped napkin and menu and the tile really give a flat table some dimension and texture that makes me want to sit there chatting and laughing all night!

Bella Figura Calligrapher

November 2, 2016

As a Bella Figura calligrapher, I get to provide many couples with custom calligraphy for their wedding and event invitations. This one was a special request to have the tails of the letters extend off the page. So we used my Mitty caps script and modified it a bit and I just love how it turned out. This invitation is bold, neutral and whimsical all in one.

A close up so you can see that great impression from the letterpress printing process.

Wedding calligraphy invitations

July 8, 2016

I adore creating wedding calligraphy invitations for such joyous events. This wedding invitation is no exception because I had the privilege of working with the most wonderful family and kindest planner – Stefanie Miles.   The soft pink paper paired with white cotton paper, hand torn edges and modern calligraphy really make this suite swoon worthy.

We used a post card RSVP and envelope addressing to complete all the wedding calligraphy invitations components. It was easy to mail for the guests and a bit lighter in weight to keep the postage down on the invitation suite.  The envelope addressing is using my Mitty caps style in walnut brown ink.  I love the subtle tonal variation it gives.
