Luxury Austin Texas Wedding – Martha Weddings

August 19, 2016

This luxury Austin Texas wedding was featured in Martha Weddings and I am thrilled to share it with you!  The team of creatives was outstanding so be sure to checkout everyone involved below but I do want to shout out to some of the idea makers: Design & Planning by The Wildflowers, Stationery by Southern Fried Paper, stunning photography by Ryan Ray and gorgeous floral by The Southern Table.  This is what happy wedding dreams are made of and it was such an honor for me to play a part in it.

Well, I have to say it… these are some of my very favorite wedding invitations created so far.  I adore the modern script, clean classic letterpress in blue on thick paper and can we talk about the stunning envelope liner?  WOW! It is feminine without being girly, the blue tones are dreamy and the modern script keeps it fresh looking.  The envelope addressing was actually in a pale blue for a tonal look.  Southern Fried Paper and I have such a good working relationship and you can really see it come together in this suite.

The escort card display was an art installation between paper, artist Kayla Barker and florist The Southern Table. The escort cards were on grey paper with purple ink in the same modern script used on the invitations.  Each card had a dainty little blue ribbon and push pin used to hang on the large scale back drop created by Kayla Barker.  Finishing touches of floral decorations added by The Southern Table.

When the guests entered the reception tent for this luxury Austin Texas wedding; they were greeted by a stunning hanging floral installation, twinkle lights and welcoming long tables set up specifically for hearty laughs and good conversations.

Each place setting used a beautiful lacy charger, linen napkins, blue ribbon and a personalized menu card.  The menu color designated which entree the guest selected and the names were in a coordinating blue.  The effect was a graceful ombre across the table from light, medium and dark blue.  We also used a favorite of mine – first names only so they could be large and make a statement!

Finally, each guest received a little welcome bag filled with Texas based items and a little tag tied on that featured my calligraphy.

Texas Calligrapher – OnceWed + Heather Hawkins Photo + Bows & Arrows + Stefanie Miles

May 15, 2014

Well as you can see by the post title, this is a good one.  It’s not often I get to be part of such an all star cast in one place – but you can bet I jumped on board when I found out who was involved with this inspiration shoot.  Heather Hawkins captured the most beautiful images in a recent inspired shoot at the beautiful Trinity Institute in Tehuacana, TX.  Stefanie is such a rock star at styling – had trouble picking my favorites to share here before you hop on over to Once Wed to see the full gallery.

This has to be it – so stunning.

And a few shots from the paper pieces I created – I use a lovely dark blue ink on an off white paper with slightly torn edges in a loose version of the Mitty Style.  The “invitation” was actually a letter of invitation (love it!) and the place cards were set inside the forks with first name only. Everything just rang intimacy and family down to the last detail.

Wedding Calligrapher – Inner Envelope?

March 10, 2014

Wedding season is in full swing and with more brides taking on the challenge of designing and printing their own invitations… I thought I would do a quick explanation of the envelopes and “stationery speak” of what each one entails.

Outer Envelope:

This envelope is the main large envelope that encloses your invitation upon which the guest name and addresses are written. If you have an inner envelope then this is for the head of the household rather than “and family” or “and guest”.

It is standard to have the return address printed on the back flap of this envelope by the printer.  Calligraphers do not include this address in their rates for “outer envelope addressing”.

Inner Envelope:

This is a large envelope that fits inside the outer envelope and still encloses the entire invitation suite. You will address this to the people who are invited to your event, this includes family and guests.  It was really important in the days of butlers and post traveling by horse with same day delivery. The expectation was that the outer envelope would be soiled, so it could be opened and a clean envelope could be presented to the addressee while maintaining privacy.

Today, the change of postal procedures means the outer envelope is less damaged…and we all do not have a butler.  You will find that only certain sizes/companies offer a inner envelope and today they are not standard in most designs.

The Inner and Outer Envelope are called an “envelope set” sometimes among calligraphers.

Response Envelope:

This envelope is the small envelope that partners with the response card and will have your mailing address printed on the front. (Or any person who is taking on the task of receiving the RSVP’s and keeping an organized list of acceptance or declines). This address is considered an additional address by calligraphers.

I hope this little guide is helpful to all who are trying to figure out what exactly they need calligraphed and what should be printed!

Virginia Calligrapher – Published OnceWed with Eric Kelley & Easton Events

August 20, 2013

Earlier this year I got the pleasure of working with the amazing team at Rock Paper Scissors on Ellie and Teds wedding stationery.  Yesterday the gorgeous wedding was featured on Once Wed.

The invitations, addressing, menu, escort cards and place cards all were adorned with calligraphy.  The team at Easton Events had a specific vision to match the beautiful organic grounds of Castle Hill Cider.  Mitty, with capitals and a little more relaxed and flowing – I fell in love and hope you do too!

Thanks to Eric Kelley, Easton Events, Rock Paper Scissors, Beehive Events…. and the Bride and Groom for choosing me 🙂
