October 25, 2017

I just had to show off another fantastic escort card wall for a Dallas wedding display by Emily Clarke Events & The Detail Department.

They had this great room key shapes cut out of white acrylic, hung a lovely fringe tassel & I wrote teeny tiny in all caps in a matching color for the escort cards. Everything turned out super cute for this Dallas wedding!

Calligraphy wedding vows

October 25, 2017

Oh boy, I am always honored to be asked to calligraphy wedding vows that will be hung in a new couples home. Usually, I work with past couples to make it a year anniversary gift (because the first anniversary is a “paper” anniversary).

This type of work can be very detailed and usually involves math, drafts and extra paper for the inevitable ink splatter or skipped word. Here are a few photos from the process!  Usually, I suggest allowing plenty of time for this time of custom order.  Since we want this original heirloom piece to be perfect.  Typical turn around time is approximately 4 weeks.

The first way to start is with a ruler and calculator.  I line my x-height as well as the borders I want to keep for framing.  It also helps my eyes out and rule a few centering lines to work from on the draft and so I know how much movement needs to happen in the final piece.

The 2 pieces are actually ruled with the same x-height and with the same spacing.  I just had to skip lines for the less dense text to make sure it filled the page the same.  Lucky for me the rhythm of text worked out nicely for this approach to the density problem.

These were large! 16×20 in size using gold ink and my Mitty caps script. There was a difference in length for each piece so I adjusted the spacing to make them look a bit more balanced and equally “full”.

I finished the final calligraphy wedding vows off by hand tearing the soft cotton paper for fluffy edges. The result was lovely!

Destination California Wedding – Escort Wall

September 3, 2017

It is always a privilege to work on the genius pieces that happen when Southern Fried Paper and Jacin Fitzgerald join forces. This destination California wedding with it’s escort wall in a stunning tile and calligraphy was no exception.

Destination California Wedding – Escort Wall

The guests were greeted by an amazing escort wall. The tile backdrop served as a photo/ selfie-station backdrop after all the seating cards were removed.

The escort cards were actually leather luggage tags I penned with the guest names. We used my Samantha script in white ink and they turned out lovely.  The other side indicated the table number was designed by Southern Fried Paper.

One of my favorite features of this event were the place cards. Southern Fried Paper ordered handmade terra cotta tiles from a Texas local and I put the guest names on in white calligraphy using the same style.  These tiles were hefty at about a pound a piece.  A great idea to help weight down menus for a windy California destination wedding.

These looked so good on the stunning tabletop Jacin designed.  I adore the loose florals and little dishes on the table to really give it some depth.  These chargers topped by a wrapped napkin and menu and the tile really give a flat table some dimension and texture that makes me want to sit there chatting and laughing all night!

Luxury Austin Texas Wedding – Martha Weddings

August 19, 2016

This luxury Austin Texas wedding was featured in Martha Weddings and I am thrilled to share it with you!  The team of creatives was outstanding so be sure to checkout everyone involved below but I do want to shout out to some of the idea makers: Design & Planning by The Wildflowers, Stationery by Southern Fried Paper, stunning photography by Ryan Ray and gorgeous floral by The Southern Table.  This is what happy wedding dreams are made of and it was such an honor for me to play a part in it.

luxury calligraphy wedding invitations

Well, I have to say it… these are some of my very favorite wedding invitations created so far.  I adore the modern script, clean classic letterpress in blue on thick paper and can we talk about the stunning envelope liner?  WOW! It is feminine without being girly, the blue tones are dreamy and the modern script keeps it fresh looking.  The envelope addressing was actually in a pale blue for a tonal look.  Southern Fried Paper and I have such a good working relationship and you can really see it come together in this suite.

The escort card display was an art installation between paper, artist Kayla Barker and florist The Southern Table. The escort cards were on grey paper with purple ink in the same modern script used on the invitations.  Each card had a dainty little blue ribbon and push pin used to hang on the large scale back drop created by Kayla Barker.  Finishing touches of floral decorations added by The Southern Table.

When the guests entered the reception tent for this luxury Austin Texas wedding; they were greeted by a stunning hanging floral installation, twinkle lights and welcoming long tables set up specifically for hearty laughs and good conversations.

Each place setting used a beautiful lacy charger, linen napkins, blue ribbon and a personalized menu card.  The menu color designated which entree the guest selected and the names were in a coordinating blue.  The effect was a graceful ombre across the table from light, medium and dark blue.  We also used a favorite of mine – first names only so they could be large and make a statement!

Finally, each guest received a little welcome bag filled with Texas based items and a little tag tied on that featured my calligraphy.

Classic Calligraphy ready-made invitations

July 25, 2016

A glimpse into my classic calligraphy ready-made invitations today. I wanted to take some time to share a little bit more about my invitation suites. Each one, the inspiration and features available with each set.

The classic collection is probably my favorite because it is versatile and always looks nice. This suite has a classic layout that looks very traditional with a formal script hand (copperplate, rook, spencer) or a bit more lively with a more modern script (Hayden shown, Mitty or Samantha).

It’s classic it’s clean, it’s elegant.

Each suite offers turn key service. This means everything is included – an invitation, the outer envelope with a printed return address, a RSVP card and envelope with printed return address. Plus each suite COMES WITH hand calligraphy guest addressing. You will not find that anywhere else. I wanted you to be able to send your invitations off in the mail when you received them rather than having to book a calligrapher after the fact Adam ship things here and there.
The classic calligraphy ready-made invitations also come with cotton paper as a standard. This is thick 110# paper that does not feel flimsy and is soft to the touch. It’s made affordable by being digital printed but that means you can choose a variety of colors!
