Protect… in style

Posted in Gifts Galore, gadget geek on December 28th, 2009 by nicole

I just found these iPhone cases by Griffin… that actually look pretty nice. I am always a fan of tweed (or something similar). $40

Oh – and I forgot to post this last week when I was scanning the lovely Kate Spade again. Looks like it is made of that super grippy material that doesn’t send it flying across the dash in my car. $30

Do you flip?

Posted in Gifts Galore, gadget geek on December 11th, 2009 by nicole

THE hot product this season is the Flip Mino HD. Every one can be a video director with this little pocket sized recorder. Now you can even customize the shell. From $199.99 for the 60 minute and $229.99 for the 120 minute. Records in HD and looks great on the big TV – take it sky diving and race car driving to capture the experience because you will be screaming too much to remember :-)

Around the Net

Posted in Cool Threads, Fantastic Furniture, gadget geek on March 26th, 2009 by nicole

I love posting what I have found “around the net” over the week – but have found that there is a need to consolidate and free up some of my time (since I have been a bad blogger since the beginning of the year). So… welcome a new Thursday feature – with my favorites from the week.

First up – growing up in dance for 13+ years I am a sucker for ballet shoes. I love them, but I was taught never to wear them out of the studio. When I saw that Bloch now had a street wear version, I was over the moon to say the least. This style is my favorite to throw on after water aerobics during these colder months.
Next, how fantastic is this handcrafted one-of-a-kind table lamp created by Robert Ogden.
He collects from vintage stores, flea markets, factories etc to recycle the parts into a wonderfully unique lamp. ($700-$1200). I love lighting and think some saving up is due to put one of these in my studio.

Finally, I saw this over at Hostess with the Mostess – and think it is perfect for the garden party or to freshen your home for spring. The Perfect Wedding Details by Maria McBride ($23 at Amazon) is inspirational for all aspects of entertaining.
I think I might make the strawberry topiary for brunch with the family Sunday.

Eco Font

It’s a bit late in the posting… but I wanted to clue everyone into the new dutch font – ecofont.

Created to make ink cartridges last longer. This is from the Ecofont home page:

“Appealing ideas are often simple: how much of a letter can be removed while maintaining readability? After extensive testing with all kinds of shapes, the best results were achieved using small circles. After lots of late hours (and coffee) this resulted in a font that uses up to 20% less ink. Free to download, free to use.”

sort of reminds me of my zyia font :-)

Testing, Testing.

Too bad this was only a packaging project for designer JuliAnn Miller. The tattoo tester might be a brilliant idea for minimizing the day after regret on getting that butterfly on your hip. Plus, it’s printed on recycled materials.
I’m digging it.image via The Dieline

Phat Postcards

I am loving these postcards that fold into a New York city building. The directions on the post card tell you where to cut and whatnot for a 3 inch building. Prices start at $1.50 located at Build your own New York.image via Outblush

Blowing in the Wind

These stainless steel pinwheels are fantastic! Shiny, perfect for outdoors (a bit sharp so they are not recommended for little hands) and only $14 at Unica Home. I think I might purchase a pinwheel garden to sit in with the spring floral garden. They come as 4, 8 and 14 petals.

Cold for the iPhone

Posted in Cool Threads, Gifts Galore, gadget geek on December 12th, 2008 by nicole

If those winter days have you freezing your texting hand off to use your iPhone, grab a pair of DOTS gloves ($13-$18) that allow you to touch your phone without exposing your fingertips.

Tasty Travels

Often for breakfast on the go I will grab a banana and toss it in my bag to prevent a low blood sugar crazy moment. Usually, they will end up looking pretty beaten before I get the chance to actually eat it. This nifty little protection sleeve, the Banana Bunker, will help keep the bruising at bay and then collapse to a smaller size for easy transport home.
Available at the MoMA store for approximately $10 for 2.

Finger Portrait

Huzzah for more fingerprint inspired items! This one combines the beauty of nature (your fingerprint) with the beauty of nurture (your handwriting). I am loving this idea first seen on Design Crush, this is definitely a project that will indulge in some creativity. Brilliant! Just fingerprint, blow up and write a 300 word self description in the space where your fingerprint lines are. It’s all about you! I think this would be an ideal newborn gift for a nursery with a sweet poem or words of encouragement for a new mom using the baby’s hand print or footprint. I am digging the face in the words from the Giulia Miglioranza portrait. Source is the Holley Portrait project by Daniel Eatock.
